Upon arrival at Twickenham Stadium I was greeted with six 140 square metre metal containers which I needed to turn into a bar and grill within 2 months, in time for the October 2018 Rugby season. The task was to craft a rooftop terrace with decking, install external cladding, glass panel balustrades, a bar, a 16 metre worktop, build partition walls and a trellis. The client was UK Kiosks and Freemans Event Partners.
The project had a packed schedule to meet the 2 month deadline, but with some extra hands and overtime we made it. One of the most interesting and challenging parts of the project proved the 16 metre worktop, which was made from five individual pieces of laminate. It had to be perfectly straight, which was not helped by the uneven container walls. I spent 1.5 days lining up the worktop with the walls, building a temporary support as there was no undercounter, glueing and bolting the laminate with biscuit joints and installing metal legs to hold the structure. A perfect finish and an unusual ask.
