A Knightsbridge makeover

Master Carpentry was offered the job of replacing single-glazed wooden, rotten windows and doors at two apartments in Washington House, Basil Street, Knightsbridge. The existing sash windows and doors were in poor condition - street noise and the cold were flooding in. The client wanted to install new hardwood windows and doors with acoustic double-glazed units.

We repaired the existing sash window boxes and door frames, but had to install new sashes. New hardwood sashes with acoustic double glazed units were much heavier, which meant we had to use new sash weights, some up to 38 pounds, to accommodate the large windows. All windows and doors were installed with high performance AQ21-style seals and brush pile carriers to achieve the best sound proofing and heat loss prevention. The level of sound we measured with the old windows went from 67db to 28db with the new windows and doors. This is a big improvement!

To complete the job, Master Carpentry used its partner decorating service to paint the windows to a high finish.
